Spearhead
Achilles 9 metre - For Sale
Believed to have been first launched in 1978 by her original owner, who had completed her from a kit made up by the designer and moulder, Chris Butler, her second owner (Ian Wallace), has had to reluctantly retire from sailing and now seek a successor. Lying at Ardoran Marine's yard close to Oban, she was acquired in 2006 on the Hamble and full advantage was taken of the local expertise to re-engine and re-rig her, improve her fit-out and do the cosmetics. In the course of her delivery voyage to Oban (via the Canaries, the Mediterranean and the Aegean) over the next six years, the main improvements were renewal of the mainsail and genoa. The new engine with 3-blade feathering propeller was lightly used, and still has only recorded 1028 hours including subsequent use in Argyll waters over several seasons. The roller-reefing genoa is mounted on a Rotostay E gear; the fully-battened main reefs and stows around the boom. There is the standard Henderson bilge pump in the port cockpit locker with a selectable additional intake to drain the locker itself, and a 20W solar panel on the hatch garage to maintain battery charge. A Hydrovane wind vane is mounted on the transom.
2 main anchors, one with 60m calibrated chain, 2-burner-and-oven gas cooker supplied by twin Camping Gaz cylinders, 6 berths in all, sea toilet, spares, etc, etc. A very small Plastimo inflatable dinghy is optional. A much fuller list can be perused at:- www.spearhead.me.uk/A9m.htm
A swinging mooring in Cardingmill Bay, Oban is also available if desired. Full documentation. Phone contact: 07876 338727
